Researchers of Melbourne University have come up with a wireless technology which promises high speed short range data transfer with speeds of 5Gbps within a radius of about 10 mtrs.
The new wireless technology is newel GiFi operates on the 60 GHz frequency band. The GiFi chip developed by the Australian researchers measures 5mm square circuit board and is manufactured using existing Complementary Metal Oxide emiconductor (CMOS) technology.
It is very cost effective and less power consumption chips. It takes only 2 watts of power and only $10 (Rs.380) to manufacture.
So Gi-Fi can be considered as a challenger to Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi and could find applications ranging from new mobile phones.
